Licenses for 10 Surveys in Up to 60 Languages Now Available Online

Lincoln, RI -- QualityMetric Incorporated has made access to health outcomes surveys, like the SF-36® Health Survey, even easier, by automating the license application process. Applications, along with a complete description of the process, are now available online at http://www.qualitymetric.com. A QualityMetric license allows use of published surveys, scoring algorithms, interpretation guidelines, and US general population norms.

QualityMetric's surveys are the most widely used health outcomes assessments in the world. Completed by patients, QualityMetric surveys offer short, precise, statistically valid tools for health risk assessment and health outcomes monitoring. Originally developed in the mid-'80s, the surveys are used by a variety of medical professionals and researchers to diagnose, manage, and monitor outcomes for individual patients, to manage and improve health services, and to monitor population health. QualityMetric is also recognized for innovations in the development of computer-adaptive test technologies.

The QualityMetric licensing program offers organizations that need patient-based health outcomes data—hospitals, physicians, pharmaceutical companies, researchers, managed care organizations—access to 10 surveys, including the SF-36, SF-12®, and SF-8™ Health Surveys. Also available through the licensing program is the Child Health Questionnaire, as well as disease-specific surveys such as the Asthma Outcomes Monitoring System™, the Headache Impact Test™ and the Hepatitis Quality of Life™ survey. Necessary documentation on survey administration, scoring algorithms, population norms, and interpretation guidelines are also provided. Surveys are available in up to 60 languages for worldwide use, along with scoring and other QualityMetric services.

QualityMetric's licensing program offers health surveys that are widely used by pharmaceutical companies conducting clinical trials of the treatment efficacy and side-effects of new drugs and devices. Managed care organizations use QualityMetric's health assessment surveys to find ways to make care more efficient and cost-effective. QualityMetric surveys are also used by research organizations conducting longitudinal population studies, clinical trials, and sponsored research, and by professionals and students engaged in academic research.

The general health surveys, such as the SF-36, measure 8 aspects of general health, such as bodily pain, and physical and social functioning. The SF-36 is the longest of these surveys (36 questions) and provides the most accurate depiction of health status. The disease-specific surveys, such as the ITG Asthma Short Form™, capture the patient's own assessment of the disease and its impact on functioning and well-being in everyday life.

QualityMetric developed the new licensing program in collaboration with the Medical Outcomes Trust (MOT) and the Health Assessment Lab. Proceeds from licensing fees support the research community that made the original surveys possible. Fees also support the MOT Scientific Advisory Committee, which develops and applies scientific standards in evaluating health outcome measures.

QualityMetric Incorporated, an independently and privately held corporation located in Lincoln, RI, was founded in 1997 by John Ware, Ph.D., principal developer of the SF-36, SF-12 and SF-8 Health Surveys.
